Colonial Heights, VA, September 3, 2024 — Girls on the Run (GOTR) is excited to announce its expansion to Lakeview Elementary in the fall. Foot specialist Bryan Acheson and his business, My Foot Guy, have been instrumental in this effort. Bryan, who serves on the Board of Directors for the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Heights, has secured the club’s agreement to support the pilot program at Lakeview this fall. This initiative marks another step in GOTR’s mission to inspire and empower young girls through running and personal development programs.

The successful expansion was also significantly supported by Craig Skalak, Director of Parks & Recreation for Colonial Heights, and Haidee Ratliff, Colonial Heights Schools Superintendent. Their pivotal roles were essential in bringing this transformative program to the community.

Already established in two Petersburg elementary schools, Cool Spring & Pleasants Lane, Girls on the Run is working to grow its presence across the Tri-Cities area. This expansion aims to reach even more girls, providing them with valuable tools to navigate life’s challenges and embrace their unique strengths.

“We are deeply grateful for the generous sponsorship from My Foot Guy,” says Catherine Estevez, Executive Director of Girls on the Run. “Alongside other partners, their support is helping us bring the transformative Girls on the Run programs to girls in Colonial Heights and Petersburg.”

The Girls on the Run program’s impact extends beyond physical fitness, offering lessons on teamwork, self-respect, and community service. The culmination of each program is a celebratory 5K event that gives participants a tangible sense of achievement.

This collaboration between Girls on the Run, My Foot Guy, the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Heights, Colonial Heights Parks & Recreation, and Colonial Heights Public Schools and others underscores the importance of community involvement in creating opportunities for youth. By working together, they are making a meaningful difference in the lives of girls, helping them build a foundation for a strong, healthy future.
