Applications are now open and will be accepted through March 1, 2026. The inaugural Powerhouse Courage Scholarship will be awarded in spring 2026, with the recipient announced in April. Fenchel Family Law, PC plans to continue offering this scholarship annually to support emerging legal talent in the Bay Area.

The scholarship provides more than just financial support. In addition to the $2,000 award, the recipient will receive one-on-one mentorship with Valerie Fenchel herself, gaining invaluable insights from an experienced family law attorney who has built a respected practice representing executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals throughout the Bay Area.
To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bay Area law school (JD or LLM program, full-time or part-time), have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have demonstrated a commitment to family law, social justice, or advocacy work. Application materials include:
- Personal essay (500-1,000 words) describing a courageous choice, as well as how that experience shapes the applicant’s approach to advocacy and their commitment to serving families through legal practice
- Resume or LinkedIn profile
- Current law school transcript
- Optional reference letter
The scholarship selection committee will evaluate applications based on the applicant’s personal story of courage, academic achievement and potential, demonstrated commitment to family law or advocacy work, and clarity of purpose in pursuing a legal career focused on helping families.
