Bittersweet Beginnings: A Loving Goodbye to Our Spring Litters

1. FROM THE WHELPING BOX

Spring has come and gone, and with it another unforgettable chapter in our journey here at Bama Huskies. We’ve laughed, cleaned, trained, sung, and said tearful goodbyes to some of the most beautiful souls we’ve ever raised. These pups weren’t just born here they were shaped here. Each one leaves with a piece of our hearts and a head start in life that only intentional love and commitment can give. These pups from Lakota are really sweet and laid back for huskies. Mom Lakota and dad Ragnar are very laid-back huskies.

To those of you opening your homes to our puppies, thank you. You’re not just buying a dog; you’re becoming part of the Bama Huskies family.

2. PUPPY SPOTLIGHT: LAKOTA’S BLUE-EYED GIRL

One of our standout puppies this season was Lakota’s copper & white female with piercing blue eyes and a heart of gold. Confident, calm, and already crate-comfortable, she stole the show with her playful curiosity and sweet, soulful gaze. She can also be pretty vocal about things too. Raised under our Balanced Beginnings™ program, she will thrive in her new home in Missouri. I’m sure she will be learning commands like “sit,” “down,” and “kennel.” We couldn’t be prouder. She as well as the rest of her litter are very smart pups.

3. FOREVER FAMILIES: UPDATES FROM NEW HOMES

Bama Huskies: Tell us about your boy Diesel. Chris: Diesel is a momma’s boy. He has a deep connection with his momma. He is doing fantastic. He gets to go to a doggy day care every week for exercise and socialization. It has really been good for him. They have a swimming pool, so he gets to swim. He is a big flirt and loves to hook up and play with a certain female. They have become an item and everyone talks about them. He is a lover and not a fighter. He doesn’t have any aggression which is always a good thing. I truly believe it’s how he was socialized at the start with Bama Huskies program. He is definitely not like any of the books we read or videos we watched about huskies. He has never torn up pillows or got into the garbage. Absolutely nothing destructive. This of course make me and Christina very happy. Diesel and I have a deep connection in how we communicate. Just a look and I know he wants to go out or he is hungry for a treat. He is living a great life here in Utah.

Bama Huskies: What’s Diesels favorite toy? Great question I bought him a cheap squeaky toy on his second birthday. It looks like a doughnut. I figured he would bite it once and be done with it. He actually loves it. If he wants to go out at night, he will just walk up to the bed click his feet and I will wake up. Okay he is ready to go out and potty. Every Sunday is his bath day. During the summer we have routines, and you know how they are. They expect it every day especially if it’s something they like. When he comes home from daycare, we have his food and ice water ready. Then we will go out to the backyard, and I will ask him if he wants to get wet. I already know the answer. He will run over to the hose and jump on it like a fox does to a rabbit trying to knock it out of the hole. Then we have water play time for about 15 mins. He loves to get soaked. If I am tired and not feeling like doing this, he will get mad and go dig a hole telling me he is not happy. That’s his only retaliation. He has always impressed me with his helpful nature. Bama Huskies: Thank you, Chris, for giving us this update on one of our huskies. I love hearing how well our huskies fit into the responsible families we place them with.

4. BEHIND THE KENNEL: CRATE TRAINING & CALM CONDITIONING

At Bama Huskies, crate training starts while our puppies are still with us, never as a last-minute scramble. We help them view the crate as their safe space: a cozy den lined with soft bedding, often paired with calming music and gentle routines. The result? Puppies who understand the crate not as isolation, but as their very own home base a place of calm, comfort, and confidence.6

Alongside crate exposure, our calm conditioning includes gently handling paws, slow brushing introductions, early exposure to real-life noises like vacuums and fans, and brief, positive alone times. These little experiences build confident, emotionally stable puppies who are better prepared to adapt to the rhythms of family life. This don’t mean every puppy won’t cry when they come home with you. They won’t be completely crate trained but they will be familiar with it.

5. BREEDER’S CORNER: WHY SOCIALIZATION STARTS BEFORE 8 WEEKS

It’s a myth that socialization begins after pickup. In truth, the most critical window is from 3–8 weeks.

At Bama Huskies, we use Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), sound desensitization, exposure to surfaces (gravel, carpet, grass), and human touch. This shapes pups who are not only physically healthy but emotionally stable — confident around new people, children, and experiences.

This early work is why Bama Huskies are so easy to train, adaptable, and bonded to their people.

6. CRATE TRAINING SECRETS: SETTING PUPPIES UP FOR SUCCESS

Crate training isn’t about confinement it’s about comfort, structure, and security. Done right, it can become one of the most valuable tools in building a well-adjusted, confident dog.

Here are our top crate training secrets:

1. Start Early: Puppies are introduced to crates in our nursery as early as 4 weeks old. They learn to associate the crate with calm, quiet time not isolation.

2. Keep It Positive: Never use the crate as punishment. We introduce it with treats, soft blankets, and praise. A frozen Kong with a small amount of peanut butter can help pups settle in calmly.

3. Create a Routine: Puppies thrive on consistency. We use a structured schedule with playtime, potty breaks, meals, and crate naps. This builds predictable patterns and helps with potty training.

4. Practice Short Absences: From about 5 weeks on, we start leaving the room for short periods. This helps puppies learn that being alone for a little while is okay and that someone always comes back.

5. Avoid Too Much Drama: No big goodbyes when you close the crate door. Calm energy from you = calm puppy inside. We keep things low-key and peaceful.

6. Respect the Puppy’s Limits: Crate time is balanced with play, exercise, and social interaction. Over-crating can backfire, so we always monitor pups for signs of stress or boredom.

7. Transition Smoothly: When your pup comes home, keep using the crate as a tool for rest, safety, and housebreaking. Our puppies already know it as a cozy den, you just need to maintain that positive association.

At Bama Huskies, we don’t just raise puppies. We raise prepared puppies.

7. SONG FEATURE: “WE’LL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU”

This season we created something special: a song written straight from the heart as we said goodbye to our spring litters.

We gave you the best start, and now you must go…
To a world full of cuddles and love you’ll soon know…
With waggin’ tails and a heart that’s true…
We’ll always remember you.

The song brought hundreds of comments, tears, and shares. It captured what so many don’t see, the emotion behind ethical breeding. Some of you seen it on Facebook but for those who didn’t and want to see it.

8. UPCOMING LITTERS & RESERVATIONS

Fall litters are expected from our beloved Fiona, Phoenix and Everest including agouti, copper, and white coat types. There could be some changes in who breeds so we will just have to see how it all turns out. We have several other girls we may be using. It will all come down to who comes into heat first and what our demand is.

All pairings are planned with genetic testing, balanced temperaments, and proven parenting in mind.

Pickup Dates: estimated mid-November through December.
