What is the one true unforgiveable sin that God will not forgive? It is Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Keep reading to understand the what, why and how you can avoid committing the unforgiveable sin!

A list of sins The Bible mentions to avoid ranges from Abuse of Self (Romans 6:11-14), all the way through Witchcraft (Revelation 21:8).

The widely known sins are Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Pride, Sloth and Wrath.

There is no forgiveness for blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 12:31-32, “Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.”

What Exactly Is Blasphemy?

The online dictionary defines it as; the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God.

Moreover, irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable, never to be broken.

Blasphemy is best explained in Exodus Chapter 20 when God spoke the 10 Commandments.

Exodus 20:7, You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.”

In addition to taking the Lord’s Name in vain; sexual immorality, idolatry and false teaching are also  examples of blasphemy!

Moving onto the unforgiveable sin.

Why Is It The Unforgiveable Sin?

This was described in The Bible, in the Book of Matthew Chapter 12, when Jesus confronted the teachers of the law.

By the power of God’s Holy Spirit, Jesus had been performing miracles in the region.

Healing people and driving out demons from them.

The religious leaders at the time (Pharisees), refused to accept that Jesus’ power was from God Himself.

Moreover, they accused Jesus of being possessed by the devil!

God Almighty through His Holy Spirit, was testifying that Jesus Christ is His One and Only Son; that He and Jesus are One, and the religious leaders rejected this.

By doing so, they were calling God a liar committing the unforgiveable sin, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit!

Why was their sin against the Holy Spirit and not against Jesus?

In truth, their sin was against the Holy Spirit because it was by the power of the Spirit that Jesus performed his healings and miracles.

God’s Clear Answer About The Unforgiveable Sin

Jesus Christ is the Wisdom of God.

Matthew 12:25-32, “Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.

And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out?

Therefore they will be your judges. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

Or how can someone enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house.

Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”

Satan cannot cast out satan.

Moreover, calling God a liar and rejecting Him is punishable by eternal death.

The Divine Point

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, therefore, is not just unbelief.

In truth, it is a determined denial; a willful, persistent rejection of what the Holy Spirit of God testified to.

That Jesus Christ is The Son of God given power and authority over all things.

After witnessing miracle after miracle, the religious leaders stubbornly continued to reject the testimony of the Holy Spirit of God Almighty!

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the one true unforgiveable and unpardonable sin.

Rejecting the Holy Spirit’s testimony to Jesus’ identity and mission and denying that Jesus is who the Holy Spirit has revealed Him to be.

The divine point is that when you accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you cannot blaspheme against the Holy Spirit.

Because you have accepted the witness of the Holy Spirit.

In contrast, when you willfully and persistently reject Christ throughout your entire life.

Moreover, when you stand in defiance of God’s Word throughout your life.

You have committed the unforgiveable sin.
