Two Montessori campuses performed patriotic songs for residents at Forest Hill Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care, part of the school’s ongoing community engagement efforts across Harford County.
Forest Hill, MD, July 29, 2026 — Children’s Manor Montessori School recently sent students from its Forest Hill and Bel Air campuses to Forest Hill Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care, where the children performed a set of patriotic songs for residents. The visit filled the community’s common room with music, as residents sang along, clapped, and interacted directly with the children throughout the performance.
At this Day Care Center in Rockville MD, community engagement is treated as an extension of the classroom rather than an occasional activity. The Montessori philosophy places emphasis on service and relationship-building as part of a child’s development, alongside academic instruction offered through the school’s toddler daycare and preschool programs.
Ms. Amy Barben, Administrator at Children’s Manor Montessori School, said the visit reflected that approach in practice.
“We are grateful for opportunities like this that allow our students to connect with older generations,” Barben said. “These experiences teach valuable life lessons about kindness, compassion, and service while bringing joy to the residents we visit.”
The performance was one of several community engagement activities Children’s Manor Montessori School plans throughout the year, giving students across its toddler, preschool, and kindergarten programs regular opportunities to interact with local organizations outside their own classrooms. School leaders said the visits are intended to help students build empathy and confidence through direct, hands-on experience.
For the residents at Forest Hill Heights, the value ran just as deep, if not deeper. Stephanie Frank, Recreation Director at the community, has seen firsthand what a room full of children can do for people who spend most of their days in a much quieter routine.
“We believe that kindness and compassion can be fostered at any age,” Frank said. “We welcome the opportunity to partner with local businesses, like the Children’s Manor Montessori School in Forest Hill and Bel Air. Getting children involved at a young age helps bring vitality and joy back into our residential community. We are very thankful to have had this opportunity.”
