After missing out on the England under-21’s squad for the upcoming European Championships, Ademola Lookman’s future looks uncertain at Everton.
Ademola Lookman’s time at Everton could possibly come to an end this summer. After missing out on the under 21’s European Championships, Lookman will be thinking long and hard about his future. Despite appearing in 24 matches for the Toffees this season, Lookman only accumulated 803 minutes of game time.
What Went Wrong At Everton?
Everton paid Charlton Athletic £11.5 million for Ademola Lookman in the winter of 2017. Hopes were high for the young winger. But I’m sure most fans wonder, why hasn’t Lookman been given a proper go at Everton? With Richarlison, Bernard and Walcott all seemingly in front of Lookman, chances for slim. However, toward the middle of the campaign, Walcot was a dead man walking. He was not contributing in attack and was a liability a good amount. Evertonians were demanding Lookman to get a run-in in the squad but it never happened.
Silva stated in press conferences that Ademola was too inconsistent in training which led to only sub appearances. There are of course the rumors that say Lookman has a negative attitude. Lookman supposedly pushed hard for a permanent move to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018. Everton in the end held onto this promising attacker.
To be fair, Lookman has experienced 3 different managers during his time at Everton which could be hard on any youngster. One being Ronald Koeman and the other Sam Allardyce. Not great managers to learn from. Macro Silva came in with high praise and hopes for Lookman. But without getting a lot of minutes, Lookman will most likely look for greener pastures this summer unless Silva and Brands hang on once more.
Where Could Ademola Lookman End Up?
Since last summer, there were transfer rumors regarding Ademola Lookman being unhappy at Everton. Behind the scenes, Lookman was looking to move back to RP Leipzig on a permanent deal. Everton however, were not interested in selling Lookman as they had plans for him moving forward.
Fast-forward to this summer, Ademola didn’t feature as much as he thought he would have. He also now has a reason to leave Everton after missing out on the under 21’s European Championships.
Southampton, AFC Bournemouth and RB Leipzig are have been linked with Lookman recently. Saints manager Ralph Hasenhüttl was RB Leipzig manager when Lookman spent the second half of the 2017/ 2018 campaign there. Hasenhüttl appears to be a big fan of Lookman and reportedly told the board to bid £20 million for the Everton winger this summer.
RB Leipzig could possibly come back into the mix for Lookman if Everton lowered their £28 million evaluation on the winger. Lookman seemed to have enjoyed his time in the Bundesliga and was keen to return.
Could Everton Replace Lookman?
On paper, Everton are in need of wingers and they have a young, talented one in from of their eyes. But if attitude and laziness come into play, Silva and Brands might look to cash in.
Let’s be honest, Lookman didn’t light the world on fire when he played for Everton. He showed flashes of potential. In 48 appearance for Everton, Lookman scored 4 goals and 2 assists. If Lookman didn’t score 5 goals and 4 assists while at RB Leipzig, would he be valued less? Perhaps.
It’s going to be an interesting summer at Everton and the Ademola Lookman saga could continue on. Would you be sad to see him leave Everton?
