ATLANTA, August 7, 2025 — The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival and Creative Arts Conference (ABTF) will mark its 14th annual celebration with a groundbreaking partnership with Spelman College, hosting a dynamic theatre marathon at the new LaTanya Richardson Jackson and Samuel L. Jackson Performing Arts Center on the AUC campus.
The festival runs from August 28 to 30, 2025, with opening night at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Hilton Atlanta Airport Hotel. The 2½-day event features 33 live performances and activities, including 13 staged readings, seven workshops, six short film screenings, six plays, and a collegiate monologue competition – making it a must-see cultural event during Labor Day weekend in Atlanta.
For over a decade, ABTF has provided a vital platform for more than 3,200 artists, preserving stories, contributing to culture, and elevating creative professionals.
“We’re excited to partner with Spelman College and showcase groundbreaking work in an intimate, family reunion-like setting on the AUC campus,” said Toni Simmons Henson, founding executive director. “This festival is where artists and audiences experience new stories as they evolve, supporting creative entrepreneurs and fostering engaged communities.”
The festival concludes with a cabaret-style dinner theater featuring Ursula O. Robinson, the breakout star of Tyler Perry’s “Divorce in Black” and “Beauty in Black.” Patrons can visit the website at www.atlantabtf.org for schedule and ticket information.
