Former Sears site will be home to DeBartolo Commons.

Boardman, OH, Sept 15, 2021– Construction work is nearing completion at the site of the former Sears anchor store at the Southern Park Mall in Boardman. Progress has been steady since the demolition of the Sears store in September of 2019.
DeBartolo Commons is the name of the new community gathering site on the south end of the Southern Park Mall. When finished, there will be stores, restaurants, and a four-acre outdoor entertainment space.
Boardman Township Trustee Larry Moliterno discussed the relationship between the project and local skilled labor:
“Right away we talked about how important it was that this project worked closely with local labor, because we had always had a great relationship with local labor; they’re an important part of our economy, and they’re an important part of who we are as a community,” said Moliterno.
Numerous members/contractors from The Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania have been involved in the construction of DeBartolo Commons.
“We’re very proud of our relationship with the building trades, and we’ve done a lot of work with them over the years. We’ve been able to partner with them through this entire project,” said Brian Gabbert, general manager of the Southern Park Mall.
