100th Anniversary of Baseballs Negro League Celebrating a Century of Accomplishment on June 27, 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Houston, TX, June 24, 2020 – In 1920, a league born out of segregation would become the driving force for social change in America, and a century later, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is leading a national celebration to commemorate one of the most important occurrences, not in baseball history, but American history!
Local partners are uniting with Major League Baseball and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum to commemorate this significant milestone, including the Houston Astros Foundation, Houston Public Library Foundation, African-American Library at the Gregory School, Houston Public Library, and local baseball celebrities. Learn more here about the Houston Public Library Foundation’s mission.
On June 27th, join the Houston Public Library Foundation’s Facebook Live event. Socialize with historians and baseball enthusiasts beginning at 1:45 PM. The panel discussion will begin at 2:00 with a Q&A session at 2:40. Admission is FREE.
The moderator of the celebrity conversation is Michael Vance, a local historian who has produced over 100 award-winning feature-length documentaries, short films, and television shows on a variety of Texas and Houston history stories.
Guest celebrities will discuss the history of the Negro League, the impact of the Negro League on Major League Baseball, and their continuing legacy. Historians and special guests include Bob Kendrick, President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and Enos Cabell, Houston Astros special assistant to the General Manager and 15-year MLB player.
